The 2017 Ech?zeaux du Dessus Grand Cru unfurls in the glass with a wild bouquet of red berries, rich spices, blood orange, grilled game and rich soil. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, very ample and expansive, with a broad attack, rich but melting structuring tannins and a fleshy core of fruit, concluding with a flamboyantly resonant finish. This is more dramatic?albeit less concentrated?than the Chapelle-Chambertin, and though the two are very different in style, they are similar in ultimate quality.
