The Le Moine 2007 Bonnes Mares (of which there are two barrels) smells and tastes of black raspberry preserves and horehound; presents a palate of sweet richness, bitter-sweet herbal pungency, and chalky minerality; and is undergirded by some of the firmest if also fine-grained tannins you will encounter in its vintage. Is it overly-structured? Certainly I don’t pretend that it is showing all that it’s got and even a few months might make a significant difference. But there is no arguing about the wine’s tenacity, ripeness, or potential to age well into a second decade.
