The 2015 Sparkling Ros? Heintz Vineyard is an incredible wine and one of the best sparklings I've tasted from California. It's made using the traditional method and is a blend of 63% Pinot Noir and 37% Chardonnay. It gets its medium cherry-pink color from an addition of about 5% to 10% red wine, the same process as in Champagne. It takes time to open on the nose, slowly offering classic Pinot Noir-like scents of red berries, citrus peel and dried leaves with touches of pastry and flowers coming through with time; if I had my eyes closed, I'd believe I was smelling an elegant Pinot Noir, as this shows all the aromatic nuance of one. In the mouth, it bursts with ripe berry flavors expertly accented by toasty notes. It brings a bit of warmth with its ripe fruit profile and has very fine, featherweight mousse, finishing long and layered. After I opened the bottle, this continued to change and evolve over several hours, and I suspect this will age very well in bottle. (September 2020 Week 4, The Wine Advocate, 25th Sep 2020)
