Selosse’s NV Blanc de Blancs Cramant Chemin de Ch?lons, based on the 2017 vintage and disgorged in January 2024 with one gram per liter dosage, introduced my tasting through the lieux-dits of Jacques Selosse. Derived from a south-facing site in Cramant, near the border of Avize, it’s a historical vineyard of the domaine, planted around 1938 and a source for the estate’s massal selection. Leaping from the glass with aromas of toasted nuts, spices and candied lemon peel, it is followed by a muscular yet chalky palate. It’s more ample and less taut than Les Carelles in Le Mesnil, sharing more stylistic similarities with Les Chantereines in Avize. As with all the single-vineyard expressions, it’s complemented by the perpetual reserve component, which in the case of Chemin de Chalons dates back to 2002.
